Chennedy Carter Released By Sparks 3rd Team In 3 Years

Chennedy Carter released by Sparks, 3rd team in 3 years

WNBA guard waived by Los Angeles

Carter, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 draft, has been traded twice and waived once in her three-year career.

Chennedy Carter is on the market for her third team after being waived by the Los Angeles Sparks. The Sparks announced the move on Friday, just days after Carter was acquired in a trade with the Atlanta Dream. Carter, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 draft, has been traded twice and waived once in her three-year career.

Carter was traded to the Sparks from the Dream on Tuesday in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick. She played in just one game for the Sparks, scoring two points in a loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday.

Carter's release comes as a surprise, as she was expected to be a key player for the Sparks this season. She averaged 14.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for the Dream last season.

The Sparks are now without their starting point guard, as Carter was expected to replace Erica Wheeler, who signed with the Chicago Sky in free agency. The Sparks also lost guard Kristi Toliver to retirement this offseason.

Carter's release is the latest in a series of moves by the Sparks this offseason. The team has also traded away forward Nneka Ogwumike and center Chiney Ogwumike.

The Sparks are now in rebuilding mode, and it is unclear how they will replace Carter at point guard. The team could sign a free agent, trade for a player, or promote a player from their roster.
