Bobby Moore: The Captain Who Led England to World Cup Glory
Bobby Moore: A Footballing Legend
Bobby Moore, born Robert Frederick Chelsea Moore, was an English footballer who played as a defender for West Ham United and the England national team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time and is considered to be one of England's greatest ever players.
Moore captained England to victory in the 1966 World Cup, becoming the first and only English captain to lift the trophy. He was also named in the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team and was awarded the MBE for his services to football.
Bobby's Legacy
After retiring from playing, Moore became a manager and coach. He managed Fulham, Oxford United, and Southend United, before returning to West Ham as general manager in 1991. He died of cancer in 1993 at the age of 51.
Moore's legacy lives on through the Bobby Moore Fund, which was set up in his memory to support research into bowel cancer. The fund has raised over £20 million and has helped to fund vital research into the disease.
