Chicago's Mexican Independence Day Festivities Kick Off This Weekend: Watch for Road Closures
Mexican Independence Day celebrations in Chicago begin this weekend, with a range of events and activities planned across the city.
The festivities will kick off on Saturday, September 17, with a parade along Western Avenue, featuring colorful floats, traditional dancers, and live music. The parade will start at 12 pm at the intersection of Western Avenue and 26th Street and will proceed south to Cermak Road.
In addition to the parade, there will be a variety of other events and activities taking place throughout the weekend, including a Mexican Independence Day festival in Pilsen, a concert in Humboldt Park, and a family-friendly celebration in Little Village. There will also be a number of street closures in place during the weekend, so motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly.
Here is a list of the road closures that will be in place during the Mexican Independence Day festivities:
- Western Avenue will be closed between 26th Street and Cermak Road from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, September 17.
- 18th Street will be closed between Damen Avenue and Blue Island Avenue from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, September 17.
- Cermak Road will be closed between Western Avenue and Damen Avenue from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, September 17.
- Little Village Road will be closed between 26th Street and Cermak Road from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday, September 18.
